OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 24.

Janelle Albert
School: Fanshawe
Program: Business Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
It was a great week for the Albert siblings. First Janelle was named the OCAA Player of the Year, an All-Canadian, as well as an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star. Albert then led her Falcons teammates onto the court at Cambrian College, sweeping three straight matches to win Fanshawe's first OCAA championship since 1972, completing an undefeated regular and post-season. Albert was named Championship MVP for her efforts, with 20 points in a semi-final win over Humber and gold medal win over Niagara. Overall she recorded 42 kills at the championship.

Zach Albert
School: Fanshawe
Program: Business Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Brampton, Ont.
It was a great week for the Albert siblings. Zach was named Championship MVP at provincials for a second straight year as Fanshawe successfully defended its OCAA gold medal. Albert recorded double digits in points and kills in each of the three matches Fanshawe won at the championship, including 18 points on 16 kills and two service aces in a five-set win over Humber in the gold medal match. Overall he recorded 40 kills at the championship. Prior to the championship, Albert was named an OCAA West Division First-Team All-Star.

Isaiah Ankra
School: Seneca
Program: Early Childhood Education
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: North York, Ont.
Ankra's double-double helped Seneca advance to the OCAA championship with a 100-78 home crossover win over St. Clair on Feb. 23. The second-year guard scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while adding seven assists and two blocks, all while commanding the Sting offence. Ankra's distribution of the ball allowed five other Sting players to reach double digits in scoring. Defending OCAA and national champion Seneca heads provincials on a high, having won 11 of its last dozen games. The OCAA championship takes place in Barrie, Ont., from Feb. 28-Mar. 2.

Bridget Atkinson
School: Niagara
Program: Protection Security & Investigation
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Welland, Ont.
Atkinson had a phenomenal road game against George Brown on Feb. 23. The fourth-year guard was by far the best player on the court as she helped give her Niagara squad a 74-59 crossover win. Atkinson finished the game with 29 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals to send her team back to the OCAA Championship taking place at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ont., from Feb. 28-Mar. 2. Atkinson was one of the top scorers in the OCAA during the regular season averaging 19.7 points per game.

Keenan Danso-Dapaah
School: Sheridan
Program: Child and Youth Care
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Mississauga, Ont.
Danso-Dapaah scored 25 of his game-high 29 points in the second half of Sheridan's 112-74 victory over Algonquin on Feb. 23. The second year guard was super efficient, connecting on 8-of-13 attempts from the floor and 11-of-13 from the free throw line, while adding seven rebounds and three steals in just 21 minutes of action. He also connected on 2-of-4 attempts beyond the three-point arc. It was his season-best points total of the season. Sheridan advances to the OCAA Men's Basketball Championship being hosted by Georgian College in Barrie, Ont.

Allyson Terwillegar
School: Durham
Program: Graphic Design
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Enniskillen, Ont.
Terwillegar was instrumental to Durham's bronze medal at the OCAA provincials in Sudbury, Ont. Terwillegar was named a Championship All-Star following an impressive three-match performance where she totalled 41 points and 34 digs. The third-year outside hitter was a model of consistency with 11 kills in each of her three matches. She added one ace, two blocks, and 12 digs in a quarter-final win over Cambrian, and three aces and eight digs in a semifinal loss to Niagara. In the bronze medal finale against Humber she recorded another two aces and a team-high 14 digs.
