2006 OCAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP - FIRST ROUND RESULTS

Humber College men’s and women’s golf teams grabbed the first round lead at the OCAA Golf Championships at FireRock Golf Course in Komoka, ON hosted by Fanshawe College.

Both teams had a great start to the Championship and are looking to gain more ground on their opponents in the final round. Humber’s men’s team shot a first round 289 and are in search of their eleventh team title while the Humber women fired a 162 and will be looking to grab their fourth title.

Hot on the Hawks heals are the defending champion, Durham Lords in the men’s team competition. The Lords sit just six strokes back at 295 while the Niagara Knights are third at 301.

The Hawks vaulted into the first position with a strong showing in the first round from teammates James Castle and Ryan Willoughby, who are tied atop the leader board after firing a 70. Durham’s Tyler Martin also sits tied for first after a first round 70.

In the women’s individual championship Hillary Salvian is the individual leader shooting a score of 79. Salvian is three strokes ahead of the defending champion, Stephanie Brown of the Durham Lords. Shauna Wilde of Humber is in third at 83.

Championship Format:
The men’s team championship will consist of five player teams competing in 36 holes of stroke play with the top four individual scores counting toward the team total. Team play after the first round will be divided to Division I and Division II. The top half of the teams (including ties) will move to Division I and the remaining teams will be in Division II. The women’s team championship will consist of three player teams competing in 36 holes of stroke play with a minimum of two individual scores counting towards the team total.
