On the men’s side, UBC dominated second round play opening up an eight stroke lead on first round leader Humber College. Humber sits is in second at 573 while the University of Laval is in third place at 577. Defending champions, the University of Victoria Vikes sit in fourth place at 581.

Corey Renfrew of Victoria, B.C. led the Thunderbirds by firing a sizzling seven-under par 65 to record the competitive course record. National Amateur Team member Louis-Pierre Godin of Champlain, Que. and representing University of Lavel, leads Renfrew by a single stroke in the individual competition. Godin sits seven-under par for the championship at 137 while Renfrew is at 138.

Play continues tomorrow at Kingswood Park with the third round beginning at 7:30 a.m. (Atlantic).

A total of 158 male and female golfers from post-secondary institutes from across Canada are competing this week in Fredericton, N.B. Competitors will compete for both team and individual titles. In total the field will is comprised of 21 men’s and 11 women’s teams.

The team championship will involve five-player teams competing over 72 holes with the top four individual scores counting towards the team total. After 54 holes, the field will be cut to the low 10 male and low four female teams. Any team within 15 shots of the lead will also make the cut. Individual champions will also be crowned after 72 holes.

As part of the RCGA’s Pathway to Champions both the male and female achieving the low score after four rounds of play will earn an exemption into the 2007 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship and the 2007 Royale Cup Women’s Amateur Championship respectively.
