Matt Hunter of the Niagara Knights (Welland) shot a 4-under 67
at the Kawartha Golf and Country Club to take the opening-round
lead of the 2007 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA)
Provincial Golf Championship.
Hunter fired a championship low 32 on the front nine, setting the
tone of the round for Knights golfer. Trailing Hunter is Michael
Zizek of the Humber Hawks (Etobicoke) who is five strokes behind
heading into Wednesday’s final round. Ryan Morissette of

for third with a 4-over 73. Defending champion Ryan Willoughby of
Humber has some ground to make up as he struggled with a 5-over 76,
sitting in a tie for ninth place nine strokes back.
Humber College is dominating the women’s competition as four
Hawks sit atop of the leaderboard after round one. Leading the way
is Maggie Trainor who shot a 2-over 73, taking the opening round
lead. Teammates Shauna Wilde, Bev Peel and Jaime Steedman all shot
an 8-over 79 and sit in a tie for second place. Ashley Gravett of
the Georgian Grizzlies trails the pack from Humber as she shot an
81.
In the men’s team competition, Niagara shot a team-total 298
to lead the defending champion Humber Hawks by three strokes. The
team from Welland will be looking to win their first team title
since 1975. Georgian College sits alone in third at 312 while St.
Clair College (Windsor) is in fourth at 313.

frontrunners in the Division II team competition as they shot a
total of 330. Confederation College (Thunder Bay) will look to make
up some ground on Wednesday as they shot a team-total 338, good
enough for second place.
On the women’s side, Humber leads the way with a team total
of 152, with Georgian College trailing by 19 strokes with a
combined score of 173.
