2009 OCAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS - DAY 2

The weather conditions and golf scores both improved on Day 2 of the 2009 OCAA Golf Championships at LochNess Links Golf Course in Welland, Ontario on Tuesday.

The Georgian Grizzlies Men's team had another solid day, shooting a combined round of 288 (592 overall) to remain in first place. The Grizzlies were led by Joey Burton and his round of 67 (-5). James Skrypec followed with a 71 (-1), and Eric Adamo and Keegan Tyers each had a round of 75 (+3).

The Humber Hawks, who started the day in second place - one stroke back of the lead posted a combined score of 291(596 overall) and now sit four shots back going into the final round.

Day 2 saw the Fanshawe Falcons and the Durham Lords move into a tie for third place. The Falcons shot a combined 290 (605 overall), while the Lords shot a combined 295 (605 overall).

The host Niagara Knights Men's team had a tough outing, dropping from third place to fifth with their combined score of 310 (619). The Knights were not able to take advantage of the better playing conditions. In a day where teams were putting up better scores, the Knights were 1 shot worse than their opening round of 309.

In the Men's Individual category, Taylor Booth of Fanshawe College and Joey Burton of Georgian College each shot a days best round of 67 (-5) to move into first and second place respectively.

Mike Zizek of Humber College had a second round of 71 (-1) and is now tied for third place in the individual standings with his teammate David Lang. Lang, who is the alternate for Humber shot an impressive round of 69 (-3).

The Niagara Knights' Scott Fricker had a second round score of 82 (+10) after shooting a 73 (+1) in his first round. He now sits tied for 20th place in the Men's Individual Standings. His teammate Chris Hargest moved into a tie for 7th place with rounds of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2).

In Women's golf, the Humber Hawks had another strong day increasing their lead. Bev Peel and Danielle Green combined to shoot a second score of 160 (322). Green's second round of 74 (+2) was the best score amongst female golfers in round two..

Kayleigh Kraemer of Durham College, who shot an impressive 75 (+3)on Monday, faltered in the second round with a score of 80 (+8).

Final day action of the 2009 OCAA Golf Championships starts at 8:00AM Wednesday morning.
