THREE-WAY TIE ON TOP OF MEN’S GOLF STANDINGS

THORNBURY, Ont. - There is a three-way tie at the top of the men’s leaderboard after first-round action at the 2010 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) golf championship being played at The Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay in Thornbury, Ont.

Humber’s Adrian Cord, Niagara’s Ryan Curran and Confederation’s Trevor Desmoulin all shot an even par opening round of 72, one shot better than Humber’s Mark Hoffman and Niagara’s Chris Gardner. Ten golfers are within two shots of each other.

Not surprisingly, Cord and Hoffman have helped put defending OCAA champion Humber on top of the men’s team standings with a plus-seven, six shots better than Durham. Niagara is third with a plus-20.

Two Durham Lords are on top of the women’s leaderboard. Kayleigh Kraemer shot a one-under 71 in her opening round, nine shots better than teammate Tiffany Albath. Georgian’s Jasmine Paton is currently in bronze medal position shooting an 86.

Durham is running away with the women’s team title, leading second-place Georgian and Humber by 33 shots.

The final 36 holes of the tournament will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Raven Golf Club is a 7,200-yard championship course located on the shores of Georgian Bay and has hosted both the TELUS Skins Game as well as the Nationwide Tour’s Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic in recent years.

Additional colleges participating at the OCAA golf championships include Boreal, Cambrian, Fanshawe, George Brown, Mohawk, Seneca, St. Clair, St. Lawrence (Brockville, Cornwall and Kingston) and Fleming (Peterborough).
