THORNBURY, Ont. - Durham College and Humber College each earned
double gold medals at the 2010 Ontario Colleges Athletic
Association (OCAA) golf championship at the Raven Club at Lora Bay
in Thornbury, Ont. on Wednesday.
Second-year player Kayleigh Kraemer captured her first OCAA
women’s individual title after collecting a silver medal at
last year’s event. Kraemer shot rounds of 71-76-72 for a
three-day total of 3-over par 219 to outpace her teammate Tiffany
Albath (80-74-72) to complete the 1-2 finish for Durham. Michelle
Lee of Humber (90-87-84) closed with a round of 84 to tie Jasmine
Patton of Georgian College (86-83-92) for the bronze medal.
In the women’s team competition, Kraemer and Albath’s
combined total of 445 gave Durham their second gold medal of the
competition, ahead of the Humber’s Lee and Jessica Payne.
In men’s play, Humber’s Mark Hoffman closed with rounds
of 2-under par 70 and 1-under par 71 to go along with his opening
round 73 to take the OCAA men’s individual title with a
three-day total of 2-under par 214. Hoffman’s teammate Adrian
Cord fired a final round 1-under par 71 to leap-frog into second
place and claim the gold-silver Humber finish. Niagara
College’s Ryan Curran (72-73-76) finished third.
Hoffman and Cord along with teammates, David Lang, Greg Belsito and
Conor Hache captured Humber’s fifth consecutive men’s
team title with a team score of 881. Durham’s David Lang,
Brad Hickey, James Hoffman, Donald Shaw and Robbie Untinen finished
at 915 to take the silver, while Georgian’s team of Keegan
Tyers, Eric Adamo, James Skrypec, Nolan Knill and Paul Ngimat
closed with a team total of 296 to vault from fifth place after two
rounds to take home the bronze medal.
Winning the OCAA men’s Division II championship was Seneca
College and its team of Nelson Lopez, Joseph Bisson, Mike Terrion,
Graham Hines and Jack Kelly. Seneca finished the tournament with a
score of 1,001. Finishing three strokes back and claiming D2 silver
was Fleming College (Peterborough) and its golfers Cam Head, Steve
Gunsolus, Ben Reid and Derrick Miller. D2 bronze went to St.
Lawrence College (Kingston) and its three-day score of 1,008.
Representing the SLC Vikings were Tim Lemoyre, Adam Rose, Taylor
Nicholas, Quinton Thompson and Peter Jacobs.
The Raven Golf Club is a 7,200-yard championship course located on
the shores of Georgian Bay and has hosted both the TELUS Skins Game
as well as the Nationwide Tour’s Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic
in recent years.
OCAA golfers will complete the 2010 season at the Ping Canadian
Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) golf national championships,
hosted by Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C. beginning on
Monday.
