STRONG START FOR DURHAM COLLEGE AT CANADIAN UNIVERSITY/COLLEGE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

ASHBURN, Ont. – Durham College golfers got off to a strong start during round one of the Canadian University/College Championship, conducted by Golf Canada at Royal Ashburn Golf Club in Ashburn, Ont.

James Hoffman ( Ajax, Ont.) had one of the top rounds of the day as he shot an even-par 72 to sit tied for fourth place in the men’s individual division. Hoffman had three birdies in his first nine, as he finished with a 2-under par 34. Hoffman trails Josh Wytinck of the University of Manitoba Bisons, who shot a 4-under par 68 to grab the individual lead in the men’s division through 18 holes of play.

CCAA national champions Tiffany Albath and Kayleigh Kraemer also started the tournament off strong. Albath and Kraemer shot +8 and +9 respectively, as they sit just a few shots behind Haley Cameron of UBC, who shot a 3-over par 75, recovering from three consecutive bogies to start her afternoon.

Durham, UBC and Victoria are the only three teams to have at least two golfers in the top ten of the women’s field.

Day two of the Canadian University/College Championship begins at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club.
