HAMILTON, Ont. - A former member of the LPGA Tour is the new
coach of the Mohawk College golf team. Deborah Lee
Eldridge of Dundas, played on five different tours in
Canada and the U.S. from 1991-2001, including the LPGA Tour in
1996. She played in 196 professional tournaments, winning 10 times.
She fashioned 88 top-10 finishes and set three competitive course
records.
Eldridge was the Ontario Amateur Champion five times and had an
incredible season in 1989 when she was the number one ranked female
amateur in Ontario and Canada and was the Canadian Female Amateur
of the Year, winning the Score Magazine Award. Also in 1989, she
was the National Amateur Champion of France and Canadian Amateur
runner-up. She played internationally for Canada in both 1989 and
1990.
Eldridge played NCAA Division I golf at Indiana University where
she was a four time tournament champion and a two time Honourable
Mention All-American. She was the Big 10 Player of the Year in
1990.
"Deborah brings experience as a player, a team member and a pro,"
said Michelle Ball, Mohawk Director of Student
Engagement and Athletics. "She will bring an understanding of the
game from both a competitive and technical level. We look forward
to having her as part of the team."
A member of the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association since
1991, Eldridge is a CPGA Class 'A' Teaching Professional, as well
as a Coaching Association of Canada Certified Instructor. She is
currently teaching both locally and as a Staff Instructor at the
Gary Bos Golf Academy in St. Catharines.
Eldridge says she is very excited about the opportunity to help out
with the Mohawk golf programme and the OCAA tournament format. "My
aim is to have the players perform their best and enjoy the
process," said the new coach.
