BELL THREE STROKES OFF THE PACE AFTER ROUND 1

VICTORIA - Ben Bell of the Humber Hawks shot a two-under 69 in the opening round of the 2012 Canadian University/College Championship at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria on Tuesday.

Bell is currently tied for fourth place, three strokes behind leader Harris Bundy of Western University. Humber teammate Christopher Bevan also sits near the top of the leaderboard, shooting a one-under 70.

A total of 14 student-athletes from a trio of Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) programs are competing this week against the top university and collegiate golfers in Canada. In all, 154 male and female golfers are competing for both team and individual titles.

Other notable scores of OCAA student-athletes include Humber's Ben McFaul and David Lang of the Durham Lords, who both shot a four-over 75. Alex Dumais of Humber shot a six-over 77.

The Humber men's team is currently tied for fourth place, 15 shots behind Laval University after Round 1. The Hawks are the defending men's team champions.

Kayleigh Kraemer of Durham shot an eight-over 79, ending her round five strokes behind women's leader Devon Rizzo of the University of Waterloo. Durham teammate Tiffany Albath is one stroke behind Kraemer. Albath and Kraemer won the last two OCAA women's individual titles, respectively.

The top six males and top five females at the 2012 Canadian University/College Championship will receive an exemption into the 2012 World University Golf Championships.

Round 2 of the 72-hole tournament takes place on Wednesday. Starting times, post-round results and a full field list for the Canadian University/College Championship are available on the Golf Canada website.
