VICTORIA - A pair of Humber Hawks teammates finished in a tie for 12th place at the 2012 Canadian University/College Championship at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria.
Ben Bell and Christopher Bevan concluded the 72-hole tournament at plus-three, nine strokes behind overall champion Garrett Rank of the University of Waterloo. Bell was the only golfer in the field to post three sub-70 rounds at Cordova Bay with scores of 69-84-67-67. Bevan showed consistency throughout the four-day event with scores of 70-73-72-72.
Humber teammate Ben McFaul ended in a tie for 19th at plus-six for the tournament. McFaul finished strong with rounds of 75-75-68-72. David Lang of the Durham Lords tied for 24th at plus-eight posting rounds of 75-71-73-73.
Humber was not able to defend its 2011 men's team championship placing fourth, 35 strokes behind Laval University. Humber's Alex Dumais was plus-15 with rounds of 77-73-72-77, while teammate Conor Hache finished at plus-34 with scores of 81-82-72-83.
Despite not returning to the province with any hardware, Humber still proved it is the class of both the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Bell and Bevan were the top golfers representing both associations, while Humber finished 31 strokes ahead of its closest CCAA rival, the University of the Fraser Valley.
In total, 14 student-athletes from a trio of OCAA schools competed this week. A total of 154 male and female golfers were in the field.
