ALBATH, KALKANIS WIN FINAL TUNE-UP BEFORE OCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

BROOKLIN, Ont. – The Durham College women's golf team is heading into the OCAA Championship on a hot streak as they were crowned champions at the D.C. Open this weekend at Lakeridge Links.

Tiffany Albath had the lowest round of the day by eight strokes as she shot a six-over 78. Heather MacKenzie of St. Clair shot an 86 while Alyssa Defoe of Georgian fired a round of 87.

Albath and teammate Stephanie Mole combined to shot 173, beating the second place Georgian Grizzlies by six strokes. Two-sport athlete Alexandra Down (soccer and golf) will join Durham College at the championship, as the Lords look to win their third straight team title.

Tiffany Albath is also seeking to become just the third back-to-back women's champion at the OCAA championship, and the first since Georgian's Katie Ferguson in 2001-02.

The Durham men's team claimed the silver medal at the D.C. Open, finishing six strokes behind Georgian College.

Shea Varty, Stephen Longo and Adam Miller all shot three-over 75s to sit in a tie with four other golfers for third place. Colton Kalkanis of Georgian won the tournament with a two-under 70.

Durham's men's team has won medals in four straight OCAA championships, including bronze in 2011.

The OCAA Championship is set to take place from October 1-3 at the Roseland Golf and Curling Club in Windsor, Ont.
