WILSON NAMED OCAA GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR

WILSON NAMED OCAA GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR

TORONTO - Matthew Wilson of the Seneca Sting is the 2012 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) golf coach of the year.

Under Wilson's guidance, the Seneca men's team saw a dramatic improvement in 2012. The Sting were just three strokes shy of medal contention at the recent OCAA Golf Championships, placing fourth. Seneca was 13th at the same event in 2011. The Sting cut their aggregate stroke total from 1,051 to 891 in the span of a year.

The team also made great strides in lead-up tournaments, taking second place at the Fleming and Niagara Invitationals, while placing fourth at the Durham Open.

Individually, Mitchel Kennedy became the first member of the Sting to finish in the top three at the OCAA championship since Paul Strother won the tournament in 1993. Kennedy finished in second place, two strokes behind tournament champion Colton Kalkanis of Georgian. Kennedy won both the Fleming and Niagara Invitationals.

Wilson is OCAA's nominee for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golf Coach of the Year.

Five All-Canadians will also be honoured by the CCAA. Along with Kalkanis and Kennedy, OCAA men's bronze medalist Alex Dumais of Humber, women's champion Tiffany Albath of Durham and women's runner-up Heather MacKenzie of St. Clair will be recognized at the 2012 PING CCAA Golf National Championship on October 16 at the Oshawa Golf & Curling Club in Oshawa, Ont.
