HUMBER LEADS HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND AT CCAA GOLF NATIONALS

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Humber Hawks and UBC-Okanagan Heat lead their respective flights through the second round of the 2012 PING CCAA Golf National Championship hosted by Durham College at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club.

In the men's competition, the Humber team of Ben Bell, Alex Dumais, Christian McCullough, Ben McFaul and Nicolas Fortin combined to card a second round of 2-under 286 to hold a 19-stroke lead over Durham College heading into the final round of play.

Fortin and Dumais sit one-two in the individual standings, with Fortin in first place at 2-under and Dumais close behind at even par. Bell is in a tie for third place with a two-day total of 2-over 146 while McFaul is in a tie for sixth place at 3-over 147. Colton Kalkanis of Georgian and Jarred Callbeck are tied for third place with Bell.

Humber has dominated the podium at the CCAA Championship having won nine national titles in the 12 years of the event. Most recently, the Hawks have won five titles in the last six years.

The Lords sit in second place with a two-day total of 601, leading the Camosun Chargers by one stroke. The Holland Hurricanes and Georgian Grizzlies are tied for fourth place at 609.

In the women's competition, Elizabeth Asselin of Levis-Lauzon matched the course record which was set by Katherine Gravel-Coursol one day prior, as she carded a 1-under 71. Asselin leads Gravel-Coursol by three strokes heading into the final round. Valerie Tanguay of Champlain St. Lawrence sits in the bronze medal position with a total of 9-over 153.

In the team competition, the UBC-Okanagan Heat team of Alana Kent, Jessica Kozak and Jennifer Woods remain in first place with a two-day total of 327. Woods is in fourth place individually sitting at 13-over.

The Heat are running away with the championship as they lead second place Holland College by 15 strokes. The Hurricanes are trailed closely by the MacEwan University Griffins who carded a 166 in round two for a total of 345.

The final round of the 2012 PING CCAA Golf National Championship tees off Thursday at 8 a.m. ET. The closing ceremony will take place following the tournament. The championship hosted at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club is open to the public to watch.
