ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM OFF TO GOOD START

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity women's golf team is off to a good start this season.

The Saints took part in two invitational tournaments recently and won both. This past Saturday, the team travelled to London, Ont., to take part in the Fanshawe College Invitational at Forest City National Golf Club. Ashley Unrau (St. Thomas, Ont.) and Laura Martin (Chatham, Ont.) led the way for the Saints shooting a pair of 86s on a very tough windy cold day. Rookie Victoria Ducharme (Windsor, Ont.) shot a 94 as well.

On Monday, the Saints travelled to Welland, Ont., to take part in the Niagara College Invitational at Hunter's Pointe Golf Club. Unrau had a solid run finishing in third place individually with a score of 82. The winner shot a 76. Ducharme shot a round of 94 which was good enough for seventh place. Martin did not take part in this event due to some school commitments.

The St. Clair women's team is currently ranked second in Canada.

The men's team did not fare so well at both events. The men finished in eighth place at Fanshawe and ninth place at Niagara.

Both the St. Clair men's and women's golf teams will be travelling to the Peterborough, Ont., area next week to take part in the OCAA championships which are being hosted by Fleming College at Wildfire Golf Club. The top two women's teams and the top four men's teams will advance to the CCAA national championships being held near Quebec City.
