DOURO-DUMMER, Ont. - Michael Rizzetto (Brantford, Ont.) of Mohawk College and defending OCAA women's champion Adrienne D'Alessio (Toronto) of Humber College remain the leaders after the second round of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Golf Championships.
Rizzetto shot an even-par 72 to improve his lead by two strokes over Spencer Dunseith (Woodstock, Ont.) of Fanshawe College. Dunseith fired a 71 on Tuesday and now sits at one-over through 36 holes.
Brennan Smith (Ottawa) of St. Lawrence College (Kingston) and Eric Pattenaude of Lambton College are tied for third, four strokes behind Rizzetto. Smith is a 2011 bronze medalist.
The best round of the day belonged to Humber's Cole Kent (Peterborough, Ont.) who shot a two-under 70. He is currently tied for fourth place with teammate Barrett McCarthy (Burlington, Ont.), five strokes off the pace.
Defending champion Christian McCullough (Richmond Hill, Ont.) of Humber is eight strokes back.
The shot of the day belonged to D'Alessio who fired a hole in one on her opening drive. D'Alessio ended her day with a 76, improving her overall lead to seven strokes.
Ashley Unrau (St. Thomas, Ont.) of St. Clair College, an OCAA bronze medalist in 2012, shot 77 for the second straight day, and is in silver position heading into the final round. Lorelle Weavers (Mississauga, Ont.) of Niagara College remains in third place, 11 strokes behind D'Alessio.
In the men's team competition, eight-time defending OCAA champion Humber increased its advantage over Lambton to 10 strokes. If Humber holds on, it will become the first program in any OCAA varsity sport to win nine consecutive titles. Lambton is also on the verge of history, having never won a team golf medal. Fanshawe is tied with Georgian for third place, 15 strokes back.
St. Clair built on its lead in the women's team competition, and is now 38 strokes ahead of second-place Georgian. Humber is in third place, a dozen strokes behind Georgian.
