REID AND CLEMENTS IN THE TOP 10 AT NATIONALS

LORETTEVILLE, Que. - Brent Clements (Pickering, Ont.) and Ben Reid (Ajax, Ont.) of the Durham College golf team each shot an even-par 72 in the opening round of the 2014 PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national golf championship to sit in the top 10.

The three-day championship is taking place at the Club de Golf Lorette in Loretteville, Que.

Both golfers had comparable scorecards as they posted four birdies and four bogeys en route to even-par rounds. Starting on the back nine, the pair were one-over after nine holes, and finished the back nine at one-under. 

Bill Irvine (Lindsay, Ont.) and Craig Conroy (Bowmanville, Ont.) rounded out the scoring for Durham as they posted scores of 79 and 81 respectively.

Jarred Callbeck of Camosun and Etienne Papineau of Champlain St. Lawrence were tied at four-under 68 for the overall lead in the individual competition.

The Lords had a total of plus-16 304, which puts them in ninth place overall in the team competition. The Lords sit one stroke behind the Georgian Grizzlies, and two back of Humber, who are the top Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) teams in the field.

Camosun and Fraser Valley of the PACWEST lead the team competition with matching totals of 289. The hosts Champlain St. Lawrence and Holland are two strokes back at 291.
