MOHAWK'S RIZZETTO HANGS IN ON TOUGH SECOND DAY OF CCAA GOLF

QUEBEC CITY - OCAA golf champion Mike Rizzetto of Mohawk College battled illness, as well as less than ideal conditions, to stay among the top shooters at the PING Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf National Championships in Quebec City on Thursday.

Rizzetto is tied for 11th place at one-over par following the second of three rounds in the event at the Lorette Club.

The Brantford native had to fight through nausea and light-headedness to shoot a two-over par 74 to fall to seven strokes behind leader Jarred Callbeck from Camosun College in Victoria.

"Mike is really doing a great job, all things considered," said his coach Deborah Lee Eldridge. "He shot minus-two on his final eight holes while he was feeling very ill. It rained off and on all day, but less than expected. But it was windy and cold - fall golf in Canada for sure."

Callbeck fired a two-under par 70 and will carry a one stroke lead over Hugo Bernard of Cegep Andre-Laurendeau of LaSalle, Que., into Friday's final round. Bernard blazed to a four-under par 68. Adam Poulin, of the host Champlain St. Lawrence, is two off the pace. The top OCAA player, after 36 holes, is Spencer Dunseith of Fanshawe. He's in a group of four players tied for seventh place, two strokes ahead of Rizzetto.
