ST. CLAIR GOLF TEAMS BRING HOME OCAA MEDALS

WELLAND, Ont. - The St. Clair College women's golf team came home with a bronze medal from the OCAA Golf Championships on Wednesday afternoon.

The Saints failed to gain any ground in the third round on at Hunter's Pointe Golf Club on another cold and windy day outside of Welland, Ont. St. Clair was four strokes out of a silver medal heading into the final round ending the event with a three-day team total of 494. This is the fourth year in a row the Saints womens have won an OCAA medal (two gold, one silver).

For the women's team competition, three players play with the top two scores counting each day. Laura Martin and Victoria Ducharme led the way for the Saints with a three-day total of 249 each tying them for seventh place in the individual standings. Jordan Schatz had a three-day total of 259 which was good enough for 10th place.

The St. Clair men's team came away with the Division II gold medals. The Saints finished with a three-day total of 932 to claim the championship. Fifth-year player Alex Zappio was the top Saint on the day and for the tournament shooting a 79 for a three-day total of 223 (13-over par) which was good enough to be tied for 10th place overall out of 71 golfers.

Other scores for the Saints on Wednesday were Jay Chambers with a 81, Brodie Weaver with an 81, Tyler Leblanc with an 80 and Zach Gervais with an 80. For the team competition five players play each day counting the best four scores.

St. Clair college head golf coach Kevin Corriveau was named OCAA coach of the year at the awards ceremony after the event.
