DURHAM ADVANCES TO GOLF NATIONALS, MISS PODIUM BY THREE STROKES

WELLAND, Ont. - The Durham College men's golf team is heading back to the CCAA national championship - the only downside is that they were three strokes away from winning a provincial medal in consecutive seasons.

The Lords entered day three of the 54-hole championship tied with St. Lawrence College for third, but dropped to fourth on Wednesday as the team was 39-over. The Georgian Grizzlies were six strokes better on the day as they finished 71-over for the tournament, three ahead of Durham's final score of 74-over par.

Craig Conroy (Bowmanville, Ont.) had the best individual finish for the Lords at the championship, tied for fifth at nine-over par. His plus-two final round was the team low as Colin Jex (Port Hope, Ont.) struggled in the third round with a 79, nine-over par.

Lewis Kertsos (Pickering, Ont.) and Brady Seguin (Stouffville, Ont.) rounded out the Lords top four scores in the final round with an 82 and 86 respectively. Stewart Muirhead (Lindsay, Ont.) had a final round 88.

Durham will now prepare for the CCAA national championship Oct. 13-16 at Chilliwack Golf Club in Chilliwack, B.C. For more information on the national championship visit www.ccaa.ca/golf-championship.
