DURHAM IMPRESSES AT GEORGIAN INVITATIONAL

BARRIE, Ont. - With their first invitational of the season washed out, the Durham College golf team had to wait to make their 2016 OCAA tour debut.

For freshman Lucas Pichl, it turned out being worth the wait as he finished in second place overall at the Georgian Invitational after shooting a 69 at the Heritage Hills Golf Club in Barrie.

Pichl finished tied for second with Josiah Dixon of Niagara, as the pair were three strokes behind champion Matt Lemay of Georgian. Luke McLean of Humber finished in fourth place with a round of 70.

The Lords had three golfers place in the Top 10 of the field with Ryan Trapp finishing in fourth place with a 72 while Colin Jex was 10th at 74. Lewis Kertsos and Brady Seguin rounded out Durham scoring with an 82 and 86 respectively.

With a team total of 297, the Lords just missed out on a podium finish as they were three strokes behind the Niagara Knights. Georgian (289) beat Humber (290) by one stroke to claim the title.

The Lords will have the weekend off before heading to Welland for the Niagara Invitational.

The OCAA championship will be taking place in Barrie, Ont., hosted by Georgian College from October 3-5. Expectations are big for Durham as they look to qualify for the CCAA national championship for the third straight year.
