DURHAM'S TYLER MARTIN NAMED OCAA GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR

INNISFIL, Ont. – Tyler Martin of Durham College has been named the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) golf coach of the year.

This is the second time in four years that Martin has received the award.

"We're extremely proud of Tyler and this accomplishment," said Durham College athletic director Ken Babcock. "Since being named head coach of the golf program we have had consistent success at the provincial level and continue to be one of the top programs in Ontario."

In his first year the team won Division II bronze before capturing Division I bronze the following year. That same season the Lords finished in the top ten at the CCAA championship in Loretteville, Que.

Last season the Lords qualified for nationals, just missing the podium by three strokes at the OCAA championship.

This season Durham, with three freshmen on the team, the Lords opened the three-day provincial event in second place before dropping back to finish in fourth place overall at the championship.

Freshman Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) had a podium finish for the Lords placing second at the Georgian Invitational.

Off the course, Durham College entered a three-year strategic partnership with the Durham Junior Golf Tour (DJGT) where Durham is the title sponsor of the tour. Over the years, several of the tour's alumni have attended Durham and have had successful playing careers with the Lords.

The Lords will be back on the course on Thursday as they take on UOIT in the second running of the President's Cup. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Royal Ashburn Golf Course.
