MOHAWK GOLF COACH ELDRIDGE HONOURED

DUNDAS, Ont. - Mohawk golf coach Deborah Lee Eldridge has been named to the Dundas Sports Wall of Fame.

Eldridge was a touring professional player from 1991 to 2001 and played on the LPGA tour in 1996.

She played in 196 professional tournaments, winning 12 times, fashioning 88 top-10 finishes and setting three competitive course records.

Eldridge was the Ontario Amateur Champion five times and had an incredible season in 1989 when she was the No. 1-ranked female amateur in Ontario and Canada and was the Canadian Female Amateur of the Year, winning the Score Magazine Award. Also in 1989, she was the National Amateur Champion of France and Canadian Amateur runner-up. She played internationally for Canada in both 1989 and 1990.

Eldridge won four NCAA Division I tournaments for Indiana University Bloomington, was Big Ten Player of the Year in 1990 and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-American.

"I am very honoured to be chosen for induction into the Dundas Sports Wall of Fame," said Eldridge. "As a lifelong Dundas resident, this means a lot to me. Golf has been a huge part of my life - as a tournament player, as a coach and as a teaching professional. I feel so fortunate to have golf as my career. My touring days were long ago, so it is nice to be in the competitive world again as the head golf coach for Mohawk College. I am able to use my experiences and training to help the team excel in their tournaments," Eldridge said.

A member of the PGA of Canada since 1991, Eldridge is a class 'A' teaching professional, as well as a Coaching Association of Canada certified instructor.

While at Mohawk, Eldridge-coached players have won eight individual, or team Ontario Colleges Athletic Association medals and competed three times in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships.

The Dundas Sports Wall of Fame is currently housed in the Dundas Museum and Archives, but will be permanently displayed at the J.L. Grightmire Arena, once renovations are completed at the Market Street arena. The formal inductions of the Class of 2018 are expected later this year.
