OCAA WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP SET TO KICK OFF

The OCAA Women’s Indoor Soccer Championship is set to kick off this week. The eight-team Championship is hosted by Conestoga College and all games will take place at the OSA Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ontario running from March 19-20.

The top two teams from each region will compete for the provincial title. St. Lawrence K, Humber, Seneca, and Conestoga won their respective regions and will be joined by the regional runner-ups which include Fanshawe, George Brown, Fleming P and Sheridan.

St. Lawrence K won the East region after going 3-0 in the tournament. The Vikings had little trouble with the opposition as they outscored their opponent 12-1 over their three games.

Humber will be looking to add a gold medal to the silver they won at last year’s Championship and the bronze they won at the 2006 Championship. The Hawks went 3-0 at the Central West regional tournament.

The Seneca Sting enters the tournament as the top team out of the Central East. Seneca is coming off a bronze medal at last year’s Championship. The Sting went 3-0 at the region tournament without giving up a goal.

Conestoga went 3-1 in the West regionals to enter the Championship as one of the top teams. The Condors are the host of this year’s Championship.

Fleming P finished second in the East after going 2-1. The Lady Knights won the St. Lawrence K Invitational in January of this year and finished third at the Sheridan Invitational.

Sheridan enters the tournament after going 1-1-1 at the Central West regionals. The Bruins last medaled at the OCAA Championship in 2003 with a bronze.

Fanshawe went 3-1 in the West regional outscoring their opponents 8-1. The Falcons won a silver at the Sheridan Invitational this year after losing 1-0 to Durham in the finals.

George Brown will be looking to medal at this year’s Championship. The Huskies won the George Brown Invitational this year, defeating Niagara 1-0 in the finals
