VAUGHAN, Ont. - The Humber Women’s Indoor Soccer Team took
home another OCAA title Friday afternoon as they defeated Durham
2-1 in the provincial final,in the event that was held today at the
Ontario Soccer Centre, in Vaughan.
Humber's first game of the day was a Semi Final tilt against the
Fleming. Humber arrived in the Semi Final after finishing first in
their pool on Thursday. Fleming advanced by way of a second place
finish.
The Hawks wasted no time getting into the scoring as Keyla Moreno
scored just two minutes into the match. However Fleming quickly
answered with a strike just before the half. At half time the game
was tied 1-1.
Early in the second half Moreno added an insurance marker that put
the game out of reach. Then with just under two minutes left in the
game Moreno completed her hat trick with a highlight reel goal.
Humber took the match 3-1.
After just 90 minutes of rest the girls hit the field again, this
time taking on the Durham Lords in the Gold Medal final.
In the first half Humber took the lead on a beautiful back-heal
pass from Connie Tamburello that Nicole Carvalho buried into the
back of the net.
Midway through the second half Keyla Moreno added another beautiful
strike to make the lead 2-0. The Lords scored late but it
wasn’t enough as Humber took the gold.
Keyla Moreno was named the tournament MVP, as she was far and away
the most dominant offense player on the field for the entire
tournament.
Sonia Rocha and Hayley Green were also recognized for their
outstanding defensive play as they were named tournament
all-stars.
This is the girls second Gold Medal in soccer this season as they
also took the OCAA title in outdoor soccer this fall.
