HUMBER WINS 2011 OCAA WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

VAUGHAN, Ont. - The Humber Women’s Indoor Soccer Team took home another OCAA title Friday afternoon as they defeated Durham 2-1 in the provincial final,in the event that was held today at the Ontario Soccer Centre, in Vaughan.

Humber's first game of the day was a Semi Final tilt against the Fleming. Humber arrived in the Semi Final after finishing first in their pool on Thursday. Fleming advanced by way of a second place finish.

The Hawks wasted no time getting into the scoring as Keyla Moreno scored just two minutes into the match. However Fleming quickly answered with a strike just before the half. At half time the game was tied 1-1.

Early in the second half Moreno added an insurance marker that put the game out of reach. Then with just under two minutes left in the game Moreno completed her hat trick with a highlight reel goal. Humber took the match 3-1.

After just 90 minutes of rest the girls hit the field again, this time taking on the Durham Lords in the Gold Medal final.

In the first half Humber took the lead on a beautiful back-heal pass from Connie Tamburello that Nicole Carvalho buried into the back of the net.

Midway through the second half Keyla Moreno added another beautiful strike to make the lead 2-0. The Lords scored late but it wasn’t enough as Humber took the gold.

Keyla Moreno was named the tournament MVP, as she was far and away the most dominant offense player on the field for the entire tournament.

Sonia Rocha and Hayley Green were also recognized for their outstanding defensive play as they were named tournament all-stars.

This is the girls second Gold Medal in soccer this season as they also took the OCAA title in outdoor soccer this fall.
