DURHAM, UOIT SET TO BATTLE IN INAUGURAL CHARITY CUP

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College and UOIT men's soccer teams are starting a new tradition on campus as they hosting in the inaugural Charity Cup, an indoor soccer game between the two rivals.

The game will take place on Friday, March 30 and will begin at 7 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre. The night will feature raffles and local performers, along with some great soccer action.

The game will be free admission with the option to make a donation of your choice towards the charity.

'Their Opportunity' provides families who can't afford to enroll their children in local sports programs the means to do so. They believe that giving a child the opportunity to play sports will develop their social skills, character, life skills and physical activity, therefore enhancing their lives, their family's lives and the community as a whole.

"The UOIT men's soccer team is pleased to be working with 'Their Opportunity', as we feel great importance in promoting youth within local sports," said Ridgeback goalkeeper Michael Heinrich. "It's all about giving back to the community and showcasing varsity athletics. This will prove to be a yearly event that will gain much attention and excitement."

The teams are expecting a big crowd at the game and encourage all students, staff, friends and family to come out to help support those in need within our community, as well as assist with making this event a great success!

"The Durham Lords men's soccer team couldn't be happier about partaking in this charitable game," said OCAA All-Star, Duncan Mitchell. "It should be a great game, but the best part is that the proceeds will help allow kids to experience the greatness of sports."

The Durham College and UOIT outdoor teams play once a year for campus bragging rights in the campus cup. Durham College is 3-0 since the first game back in 2009.
