The Georgian College Athletic Department is pleased to announce
the appointment of Rick Morandini as the Grizzlies
new women's indoor soccer head coach.
Morandini brings a wealth of experience to Georgian having worked
in various roles with elite level and youth development programs
over the last 30 years. For nearly the last decade he has served as
the club manager for the Barrie Soccer Club.
"We are thrilled to have Rick join our coaching ranks," said
Georgian College manager of athletics Michelle
McConney. "He brings a tremendous amount of experience to
the role and we believe he will be a great addition to the women's
indoor soccer program."
The position became vacant after previous head coach Ron
Howden stepped aside to focus on his other various
coaching duties. Morandini also has playing experience as a
semi-professional in the National Soccer League from 1972-80. He
was also a member of Ontario's senior provincial team (1970, 1976)
and the Canadian national team in 1976.
"I'm really excited at the opportunity to get back into coaching
and to be able to stay in Barrie, in this community, means that
much more," said Morandini. "I'm looking forward to working with
the student athletes and to build on the great foundation Ron has
built the last few years with the program."
The Georgian Grizzlies women's indoor soccer team will kick off
their season when they take part in the Conestoga Invitational on
Friday, Jan. 25.
Tryouts for both the men's and women's indoor soccer teams will
take place from January 6-16. Check the Georgian Grizzlies
website at georgiangrizzlies.ca for exact times and dates.
