ST. CLAIR WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER FALL SHORT AT REDEEMER

ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College varsity indoor women's soccer team's season got off to a good start on Friday. The Saints were taking part in the Redeemer Royal Cup Invitational Tournament in Ancaster, Ont.

St. Clair got off to a great start defeating the defending OCAA champion Humber Hawks 2-1. Goal scorers for St. Clair were Robyn Preston and Jessica Paglia. In their next match, the Saints tied the Durham Lords 0-0. These results were good enough to finish first in their pool and qualify for the tournament semi-final.

St. Clair struggled in the semi-final falling to the Seneca Sting by a score of 4-1. The lone goal scorer for the Saints was Gabriella Stratis. Due to the semi-final match loss the Saints had to face the Sheridan Bruins in the bronze medal game. Unfortunately, in a tough fought battle St. Clair ended up losing in penalty kicks by a score of 1-0.

St. Clair head coach Steve Vagnini was pleased with the team's effort. "We have a long way to go still. We started firing on all cylinders then fizzled back to some old habits. The process of becoming great has just begun."

It was St. Clair College's first indoor soccer match in 20 years as the Saints just re-joined the OCAA sport this season. St. Clair will be taking part in the OCAA regional tournament on Mar. 6 at Redeemer. The Saints will be in a pool of four teams including Durham College, Redeemer University College and Centennial College. The top two teams will qualify for the OCAA provincial championship at Redeemer from Mar. 21-22.
