DURHAM GOES UNDEFEATED AT THE ROYAL CUP

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Durham College men's indoor soccer team went undefeated at the fourth annual Royal Cup hosted by Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ont., as Dave Ashfield made his head coaching debut.

The Lords posted a 1-0-2 record in the round robin but failed to advance to the semi-finals because of their goals for/goals against ratio. However, the Lords advanced to the consolation finals where they finished the day on a high note defeating the St. Clair Saints 1-0 in a shootout.

Durham began the day with a 2-2 draw against Brock University where Richie Khasow (Ajax, Ont.) and David Gheorghita (Oshawa, Ont.) were the goal scorers for Durham. The Lords followed that game up with a 1-0 victory over the hosting Redeemer Royals. Khasow, who scored three goals during the outdoor season, scored his second goal of the tournament. The Lords would finish round robin action with a scoreless draw against Conestoga, which would be good enough to advance to the consolation finals.

Michael Ashfield (Whitby, Ont.) and Zaid Halabi (Ajax, Ont.) looked solid in net, splitting time throughout the tournament.

Durham will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they take part in the Sheridan Invitational.

The Lords hope to return to Redeemer later in the year as the Royals are set to host the OCAA provincial championship from Mar. 21-22.
