ST. CLAIR INDOOR SOCCER TEAMS QUALIFY FOR PROVINCIALS

ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's and women's indoor soccer teams return to the OCAA started off with great success. Both teams took part in the OCAA regionals at Redeemer University College on Thursday and qualified for the OCAA championships. This is St. Clair's first season back in indoor soccer in 16 years.

The St. Clair men went undefeated in round robin play with a record of two wins and a tie to finish in first place. In their first match, St. Clair defeated Redeemer by a score of 3-1. Goal scorers for the Saints were Jordan Lidia (Cardinal Carter/Leamington), Luder Yousif (Catholic Central/Windsor) and Luke Husbands (Kingsville District). In their second match, the Saints defeated George Brown College by a score 1-0. Gabriel Poulino (Catholic Central/Windsor) scored for St. Clair while Shane Beaton (Walkerville/Windsor) picked up the shutout. In their third and final match, the Saints took on their rival from just down the 401, the Fanshawe Falcons, and tied them 2-2. Husbands and Yousif scored for St. Clair.

The St. Clair women also went undefeated in round robin play with a record of one win and two ties to tie for first place. In their opening match, the Saints defeated Redeemer by a score of 1-0. Stefanie Dummer (Holy Names/Windsor) scored the goal for St. Clair while Brittany Chapieski (St. Anne's/Belle River) got the shutout. In their second match, St. Clair tied the Durham Lords 1-1. Durham scored in the last minute to tie the game. Nicole MacKenzie (Belle River District) scored for the Saints. In their third and final match, St. Clair tied Centennial College 0-0. Chapieski got the shutout in net for her second shutout of the tournament.

Both teams have qualified for the OCAA provincial championships which will be held at Redeemer University from March 21-22. The top eight men's and women's teams will be taking part in provincials.
