FANSHAWE WOMEN’S INDOOR SOCCER ADVANCES TO PROVINCIALS

VAUGHAN, Ont. - The Fanshawe women's indoor soccer team took part in the OCAA West regional championship last Tuesday, finishing the tournament with a 1-0-2 record. The Falcons finished in second place and will now advance to the OCAA provincial championships from March 21-22 at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont.

The Falcons started the regional championship with a 3-1 victory over the Confederation Thunderhawks. Fanshawe had control of the ball for the majority of the game with goals coming from Madison Smith, Katie Parker and Stephanie Mitchell.

The Falcons next game was versus the always dangerous Seneca Sting. Fanshawe had met the Sting in the final of both exhibition tournaments they played in this year, with each team coming away with one victory. After being down 2-1, Fanshawe's Parker scored to tie the game with just a minute left to go. Fanshawe's other goal was scored by Marisa Oliveira.

Fanshawe's final round robin game was against the St. Lawrence-Brockville Schooners. Fanshawe took control early in the game, jumping ahead 2-0 on goals by Parker and Kayli McGuffin. The Schooners fought back, scoring two of their own to tie the game. With the tie, Fanshawe would finish in second place and advance to the OCAA provincial championship starting on March 21.
