GEORGIAN HAS GOOD SHOWING WHILE HOSTING FIRST INDOOR SOCCER TOURNAMENT

BRADFORD, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's indoor soccer teams hosted their very first tournament featuring eight teams at the Bradford Sports Dome on Friday.

The tournament saw some great play from each of the teams and while Georgian had some great success they didn't find themselves on top at the end of the day.

Georgian's men's team had a terrific round robin, finishing in first place with a 2-0-1 record with wins over Centennial (3-2) and Sault College (2-1) while also posting a draw with Durham (2-2).  The Grizzlies went on to face Centennial in the final who finished second in the round robin.

Both teams played an incredible final match that went undecided through regulation and extra time all tied up 2-2. Centennial were able to score on all three of their penalty kicks to be crowned tournament champions with a 3-2 win over Georgian.

The Grizzlies women's team also fared well in their round robin finishing in second place with a 2-0-1 record of their own. After opening the day to a 0-0 draw with Humber, the Grizzlies posted wins over Centennial (3-1) and Sault (2-1) to earn a spot in the final.

They would again face the Humber Hawks who got a quick goal early in the game and as Georgian tried to respond by trying to create more offence, Humber were able to counter and come away with a 4-0 victory.

Next up for Georgian's indoor soccer team are the OCAA regionals which serve as a qualifier for the provincial championship. The men's team will play their regional qualifier on March 2 at the Ontario Soccer Association Centre in Vaughan, Ont., while the women's team will be having their regional on March 5 hosted by Redeemer University College.
