ST. CLAIR WINS OCAA WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

ANCASTER, Ont. - In just their second season since reviving their women's indoor soccer program, the St. Clair Saints are the best in the province, winning the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) gold medal in dramatic fashion.

St. Clair dethroned defending champion Seneca in the semi-final via penalty kicks, then edged Fanshawe 1-0 in overtime in the gold medal match. St. Clair's Katrina Arnold (Essex, Ont.) was named the top goalkeeper and championship MVP, and veteran teammate Stefanie Dummer (Windsor, Ont.) was named a championship all-star.

The Saints were tied 1-1 against Seneca through regulation then overtime, but won in penalty kicks in convincing fashion, outscoring Seneca 3-0. St. Clair went 2-0-1 in round robin play, not allowing a goal against. The Saints placed first in their pool. It is St. Clair's first indoor soccer gold medal in school history, and first medal since earning bronze in 2000.

Fanshawe was a goal away from its first championship since 2010, but have to settle for the silver medal. The Falcons also finished first in their pool with a 2-0-1 record. Fanshawe second-year defender Chelsea Brintnell (Exeter, Ont.) and fifth-year forward Katie Parker (Strathroy, Ont.) were named championship all-stars.

Sheridan returned to the women's podium for the first time in three seasons, defeating Seneca 2-1 in overtime in the bronze medal match. Sheridan third-year midfielder Kendra Cooper (Brampton, Ont.) and Seneca third-year forward Andrea Runco (Newmarket, Ont.) were named championship all-stars.

All games in the championship round went into extra time. Fanshawe clipped Sheridan 1-0 in overtime in the semi-finals.
