MOHAWK GETS SILVER IN MEN'S INDOOR SOCCER TOURNEY

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Mohawk men's soccer team captured the silver medal at the Redeemer Royal Cup indoor soccer tournament in Ancaster, Ont.

The Mountaineers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Humber Hawks in the championship game Saturday (Jan. 28).

Lucas Raposo scored the lone goal for Mohawk, which was undefeated in the event until the final.

The Mountaineers drew with George Brown, 1-1 in their opening game. Semir Ibrahimi got the Mohawk goal. Ibrahimi also scored in the second game along with Ephraim Cirillo in a 2-0 triumph over Conestoga.

Raposo scored to give the Mountaineers a 1-0 win over St. Clair in their third contest.

Next up was a semifinal meeting with tourney host Redeemer, and Mohawk won 2-0 on goals by Sameiro de Aragaso and Justin Dargue to advance to the gold medal contest.

Mountaineers coach Richard Bennett was very pleased with his players' efforts.

"The team played fantastic. I'm proud of the lads," said Bennett, who'll now prepare his squad for regional play.
