GEORGIAN INDOOR SOCCER TEAMS BATTLE AT OCAA REGIONALS

LONDON, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's indoor soccer teams participated in the OCAA regionals on Monday hosted by Fanshawe College at the BMO Centre in London, Ont.

Georgian's men's team had an excellent showing and opened the tournament with a huge 2-1 victory over the Centennial Colts.

The Grizzlies then faced a tough Fanshawe Falcons team that capitalized on their opportunities defeating Georgian 4-0.

This set up a crucial third match for Georgian as they faced the Lakehead-Orillia Thunderwolves. The Grizzlies came through when it mattered most delivering a big 6-0 victory.

That win gave the Grizzlies a 2-1 record at the tournament and combined with a tie in the final game between Fanshawe and Centennial, Georgian clinched second place in their pool.

With that the Grizzlies have qualified for the OCAA Men's Indoor Soccer Championship presented by belairdirect which will take place March 23-25 in Ancaster, Ont.

Luck was not on the side of the Grizzlies women's indoor soccer team at the tournament.

After leading for the majority of their first game against the Mohawk Mountaineers, the Grizzlies fell in a remarkable comeback by their opponents 3-2.

Georgian battled hard in their next two games but it wasn't enough as they fell 4-0 to Fanshawe before wrapping up their tournament losing 1-0 to the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles.

The Grizzlies ended up finishing in fourth place of their regional pool so their season comes to an end as only the top two teams advance to the OCAA championship.
