GEORGIAN MEN'S INDOOR SOCCER SEASON WRAPS UP AT OCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANCASTER, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's indoor soccer team competed at the 2017 OCAA Men's Indoor Soccer Championship presented by belairdirect on Thursday and Friday at the Redeemer University College Sports Complex in Ancaster, Ont.

The Grizzlies battled hard in their four round robin pool games but finished with a 1-3 record. Georgian opened with a 2-0 loss to George Brown and a 5-0 defeat to Humber on Day 1. It then opened the second day of competition with an impressive 6-0 win over Confederation before falling 1-0 in a tight match to Durham to wrap up the tournament.

The Grizzlies finished in fourth place in their pool and did not qualify for the medal round which goes to the top two teams in each pool.

The win over Confederation was significant as it was the Grizzlies first-ever victory at the OCAA championship in team history. Georgian had qualified for the championship twice before in 2012 and 2014 but a win at the year's final tournament marks a significant step in the development of the program.

Scoring in the game for the Grizzlies were Oscar Diaz with two goals, Chris Quental, Patryk Ryska, Casey Collis and Lukas Katinas.

Georgian made serious strides this year winning an invitational tournament, finishing second at the regional championships and qualifying for the OCAA championship. With a returning core of players expected to be back next season, the future is bright for the indoor soccer program.

The championship wraps up on Saturday with the semi-final and medal matches. For more information visit the championship website.
