ST. CLAIR MEN'S INDOOR SOCCER WIN PROVINCIAL SILVER

ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's indoor soccer team wrapped up their season on Saturday winning the OCAA silver medal for the second year in a row. The championship was hosted by Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ont.

After going 2-1-1 in round robin play on Thursday and Friday, the Saints finished second in their pool of five to qualify for the semi-final on Saturday morning against the Humber Hawks. This was a rematch of last year's gold medal game. In a very fast back and forth match the Saints went up 1-0 on a nice goal by Mitchell Hunter (Woodslee, Ont.) 15 minutes into the game. There would be no more scoring in the game as the Saints advanced to the gold medal game. Shane Beaton (Windsor, Ont.) earned the clean sheet and win making some huge saves late in the game to secure the win.

In the championship gold medal game the Saints were taking on the George Brown Huskies. In another entertaining fast paced game the Huskies went up 1-0 halfway through the second half. The Saints put on tonnes of pressure over the last 10 minutes but could not get one past the George Brown keeper to even the score.

St. Clair's Beaton was named a Championship All-Star. Beaton played every minute in goal for the Saints and allowed only two goals against in six games. Martin Nyul (Hungary) was also named a Championship All Star. Nyul scored two goals in the tournament but was a threat to score every time he was on the field.

Since coming back into indoor soccer in 2014 the St. Clair men have done very well. They have qualified for the provincial championship all four years and have now won back-to-back silver medals.
