ST. CLAIR HIRES NEW WOMEN'S SOCCER HEAD COACH

WINDSOR, Ont. - The St. Clair College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Kris Geier as the new varsity women's soccer head coach. Geier replaces Steve Vagnini who stepped down last week.

Kris was born and raised in Windsor and graduated from Walkerville High School. Geier attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on a soccer scholarship graduating in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Community Recreation. Geier also earned his Bachelor of Education Ontario Teaching Certificate from the University of Windsor in 1994. He then went on to earn is Masters in Human Kinetics from Windsor in 1997.

Kris is returning to St. Clair where he was the women's head coach from 1987 to 2002. While at St. Clair he led the Saints to OCAA gold in 1988, OCAA silver in 1987 and OCAA bronze in 1999. He earned OCAA Coach of the Year in 1988. Geier went on to be the head coach of the University of Windsor women from 2003 to 2007. He spent the past three seasons working under Vagnini as an assistant with the St. Clair women.

Also joining Geier in the staff will be lead assistant coach Gadeer Sobh. Sobh spent the last four seasons as an assistant with Vagnini at St. Clair. Gadeer played as a central midfielder for Eastside Kickers Soccer program from 1999 to 2008. She then moved on to play for the University of Windsor Lancers soccer team from 2009 to 2012 finishing her career as a Lancers captain. Sobh coached Massey High School from 2009 to 2011. She then coached Eastside Kickers from 2012 to 2015 and was an assistant coach at the University of Windsor for one season (2013). Gadeer attained her Pre-B coaching license in 2013 and is moving towards attaining her provincial B license.

"Kris is a very passionate and driven coach who will push our athletes to achieve at the highest level. We are very pleased to have him on board and at the helm of our women's soccer program moving forward," stated St. Clair College Athletic Director Christina Gatto.
 
Saint's Athletic Coordinator Jay Shewfelt is looking forward to working with Geier and Sobh. "Our women's soccer program is in great hands with Kris and Gadeer. Their first hand knowledge will allow a seamless transition for current players, new recruits and the athletic department."
 
Kris is extremely excited about this opportunity. "I am very pleased to come back to where it all started for me 30 years ago. We are looking forward to building on the recent successes of the team and continuing on with the new standards and culture that Coach Vagnini has instilled in the program. Gadeer and I have some really big shoes to fill but we are eager and anxious to get started with a new group of players. There are many exciting things happening at St. Clair College and we are very proud to be part of the Saint's family."
