GEORGIAN INDOOR SOCCER SEASONS COMES TO AN END AT REGIONALS

TORONTO - The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's indoor soccer teams competed at the OCAA Group 'C' Regionals on Wednesday hosted by Seneca College in Toronto.

Each of the Grizzlies teams competed in a pool of four teams with the top two finishing teams in each pool will move on to the OCAA championships which takes place Mar. 22-24 hosted by Redeemer University College in Ancaster, Ont.

Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, it wasn't their day. The women's team battled hard, but some tough breaks cost them their opportunity to move on.

In their first game against the Centennial Colts it was a penalty kick that was the difference in a 1-0 loss for Georgian. In their second match they faced the St. Lawrence Vikings and held a one-goal lead, but a late comeback by the Vikings resulted in a 2-1 loss.

Georgian showed their resilience in the third game as they pulled off an impressive 3-2 victory over the Seneca Sting, who ended up finishing first in the pool.

It wasn't enough as the Grizzlies were unable to crack the top two in their pool and their season came to an end.

On the men's side, the Grizzlies were able to get an early result on the board with a 1-1 draw against the St. Lawrence Vikings to open the tournament.

Georgian then played two of the league's highly touted teams in the Seneca Sting and the Humber Hawks. The Grizzlies battled hard but were unable to get over the hump falling 3-1 to the Sting and 6-1 to the Hawks to close out their tournament.

With a 0-2-1 record the Grizzlies finished out of the top two of their pool and their season came to an end.

Both the men's and women's teams will now shift their focus to a strong off-season. With both teams having such rookie heavy rosters, the teams will look to grow on the season that was with many returnees next season.
