DURHAM HAS LITTLE TROUBLE IN REGIONAL PLAY, ADVANCES TO CHAMPIONSHIP

TORONTO - A pair of victories and a tie in Friday's regional pool play have earned the Durham College men's soccer team a spot at the OCAA indoor soccer championship.

The Lords opened the day with a 3-0 victory over the Canadore Panthers. Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.) notched a pair of goals, while Andres Murillo Marrugat (Whitby, Ont.) picked up a single goal.

Trevor Stephens (Aurora, Ont.) and Roudelin Saguesse (Ajax, Ont.) split time in goal for the shutout.

As the day continued at the Seneca Stingdome, the games continued to get tougher. Durham finished the next game with a narrow 2-1 victory, which locked up their spot in the championship.

Kevin Thibodeau (Pickering, Ont.) and Stephane Ahanda (Cameroon) each scored in the clinching game.

To wrap up the day and determine who would finish atop Pool E, the Lords faced the Sheridan Bruins.

The two teams tied 2-2, but on goal differential the Bruins finished first in the pool. Alex Needs and Thibodeau had a goal each for Durham, who finished in second place.

"Today the boys competed well and have been training hard for this," said Durham head coach Dave Ashfield. "Their hard work has earned them a spot in the championship and they're looking forward to representing Durham College again on the provincial stage."

Now the team will have week off as they prepare for the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championships hosted by Redeemer University College on March 22-24.
