GEORGIAN INDOOR SOCCER TEAMS SEASON WRAPS UP AT REGIONALS

The Georgian Grizzlies men's and women's indoor soccer teams participated in the OCAA Regionals on Thursday hosted at Seneca College in Toronto.

Both the women's and men's team played in a regional pool of five teams with the top two placing teams on the day moving on to the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championships which will be hosted by Redeemer College on March 12-13.

Georgian's women's team battled hard throughout the day and started strong with an impressive 2-1 victory over the Sheridan Bruins. Chiara Rustico (Springwater) and Maria Albanese (Alliston) had the goals for the Grizzlies.

The team then followed with tough matches against UTM Eagles where they fell 3-1 and against the Fanshawe Falcons where they lost by a 4-0 score. Lacy Shuttleworth (Brighton) had the lone goal for the Grizzlies in the UTM game.

They finished on a strong note playing an excellent game against the Lambton Lions where the Grizzlies won 4-1. Georgian had goals from Lacy Shuttleworth, Maria Albanese, Aimee Parker (Whitehorse) and Morgan Landles (Barrie).

Unfortunately for Georgian their 2-2 record on the day placed them third in their pool missing out on qualifying for the provincials by one place in the standings.

On the men's side the Grizzlies had a slow start and they weren't able to recover.

Georgian opened with a tough battle against the Lambton Lions where they fell 2-0 after giving up a goal late with the goalkeeper pulled. They then followed with a 3-0 loss to the Fanshawe Falcons.

The Grizzlies battled hard in their next match but ultimately fell 3-1 to the Centennial Colts. Gabriel Soares (Brazil) scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies.

In their final match of the tournament, the Grizzlies put up a good fight but lost to the Durham Lords 4-2 in a close contest. Georgian had goals from Franco Mendez (Argentina) and Oliver Garrett (Barrie).

The Grizzlies finished in fifth place in their regional pool and fell short of moving on to provincials as their season came to an end.
