ANCASTER, Ont. - The St. Clair College men's indoor soccer team will play for a medal on Friday at the OCAA championship. The Saints competed at the championship on Thursday at Redeemer University and came away with a solid 2-0-1 record in round robin pool play.
St. Clair started off the day playing George Brown College (Toronto) to a 3-3 draw in an exciting back and forth match. The Saints goals were scored by Shikhar Pant (India; Bal Bhhartj Public), Korede Adepitan (Etobicoke; NACI) and Daniel Wlodek (Kitchener; Huron Heights).
In their second match, the Saints took down the Sheridan Bruins (Oakville) by a score of 4-3 which included two late goals. Goal scorers were Adepitan, Wlodek, Massimo Pollard (Windsor; Holy Names) and Bastien Aguilera (Chile; Instituto Miguel Leon Prado).
In their final round robin game, St. Clair defeated the University of Toronto-Mississauga 4-0. Goal scorers were Adepitan, Pollard, Evan Mendonca (West Lorne; West Elgin Secondary) and Aguilera.
Keeper Frankie Calvaruso (Tecumseh; St. Anne's) played all three games for the Saints and was outstanding in each of them making some key saves at big times.
With their record of two wins and a tie the Saints ended up in second place in their pool. St. Clair will play at 10 a.m. in the semi-final on Friday against Humber College, the first-place team in the other pool. The winner will advance to the gold medal match at 12:30 p.m. while the loser will play for bronze at 12 p.m. The other semi-final will feature Fanshawe College against George Brown College.
