TIME FOR THE OCAA STARS TO SHINE

It’s time for the stars to shine as the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association’s (OCAA) top male and female basketball players will gather in Oshawa this weekend as Durham College is set to host the 19th Annual OCAA Basketball All-Star Games on Saturday, January 21.

The event will also play host to the Spalding/T.Litzen Sports OCAA 3-Point Shootout, the OCAA 2-Ball Championship and the OCAA Best Mascot Competition. The festivities will conclude with the women’s all-star game at 6pm and the men’s at 8:15pm. Fans in attendance will also have an opportunity to win $5,000 in the OCAA Spalding Shoot for Cash Contest. The Contest will take place during the halftime of both games. All events will be held at the Durham College Campus Athletic Centre. Both the Men’s and Women’s games are set to be televised on Rogers Television.

Players, coaches and fans will have the pleasure of enjoying the game while former OCAA announcer and present “Voice of the NBA Toronto Raptors”, Mr. Herbie Kuhn will be announcing all the action from start to finish on the sidelines.

The event will also feature involvement from Basketball Canada and National Team coaches during the all-star practice sessions for all participating All-Stars and coaches. Players will also get an opportunity to practice and run drills identical to a National Team practice.

In men’s action, the West & East league leading top scorers will guide their teams as the Sault’s Jean Louis Ouattara (23.8 PPG) leads the West against Fleming’s Neil O’Sullivan (22.2 PPG) and his East teammates. On the women’s side, the leagues top two leading scorers will go head-to-head as Seneca’s Natasha Thombs (19.8 PPG) leads the East against Mohawk’s Susan Shaw-Davis (16.1 PPG) and her West squad.

The finals of the Men’s and Women’s Spalding/T. Litzen Sports OCAA 3-Point Shootouts and all the OCAA All-Star game coverage can be heard live on the FreQ Campus Radio Station at www.thefreq.ca, www.durhamlords.com or www.ocaa.com starting with the pre-game show at 5:30pm.
