Fleming, Centennial, Humber, and Sheridan enjoyed the luxury of
having the weekend off as they earned byes into the OCAA
Men’s Basketball Championship starting February 28 at Mohawk
College. Eight other teams had to fight for a spot, with a simple
win and you’re in philosophy.
Loyalist made the long trip to Algoma to take on the Thunderbirds.
Behind the lights out shooting of Robbie Green (21 points), the
Thunderbirds defeated Loyalist 82-66. Vyron Philips, Patrick
Murray, and Ryan Vetrie all scored in double figures for Algoma.
Jamal Fletcher had 20 points in the loss.
One of the hottest team in the OCAA, the St. Lawrence Vikings
defeated the Niagara Knights 86-77. St. Lawrence took a 47-28 lead
to half time and were able to hold on for the win. Milton Holness
had 30 points while Saliyn Cadogan had 27 to lead the Vikings to
victory. Ian Harriette put up an impressive 28 points in the
loss.
Algonquin ended Mohawk’s chances of playing on home court
next weekend at the Championship defeating them 83-75. Jeremy
Walters had 19 points for Algonquin, while Tyrone Berry had 18 for
Mohawk.
Fanshawe will be looking to defend it title after defeating Durham
90-75 to earn a spot at the Championship. Omar Sybbliss had 18
points and 10 assists for Fanshawe with Andy Campbell chipping in
17. Evan Browne had 18 points in the defeat.
