WILSON NAMED CCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jovain Wilson of the Algoma Thunderbirds is the 2012 CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

"His stats are solid and his team is enjoying the best year they've ever had," says Jeff Harris, CCAA men's basketball convenor. "His shooting percentage is steady, his play is efficient, and he has a calming influence out on the court."

The two-time OCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year is currently ranked third in career scoring in OCAA Men's Basketball with 1480 points. He was ranked second in the OCAA this season for total points scored, and seventh overall in the CCAA's national stats for points per game.

"Jovain continuously demonstrates the skills of a true leader," says Algoma Thunderbirds head coach Thomas Cory. "He's competitive, yet demonstrates sportsmanship even after a tough loss."

The Algoma Thunderbirds of Sault Sainte Marie, Ont. recently completed their best season ever, earning a 15-3 record in the OCAA West Region and competing at the 2012 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

The other nominees for 2012 CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year were Mamadou Médoune Gueye of the Dynamiques de Sainte-Foy, Gurjote Jhaj of the Langara Falcons, Leo Morris of the Holland Hurricanes and Zach Waldher of the Keyano Huskies.

Wilson received the award Wednesday, March 14 during the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet at the 2012 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship in Truro, N.S. CCAA Player of the Year recipients receive a customized ring provided by Jostens Canada, the Official Ring Supplier of the CCAA Championship Awards Banquet.
