FANSHAWE 76, SAULT 58

LONDON, Ont. - In their final home game of the regular season, the Fanshawe Falcons men's basketball team defeated the Sault Cougars 76-58. Kyle McConnell led the way offensively for the Falcons with 19 points. Fanshawe is in third place in the OCAA West Division standings.

In the opening quarter, the Falcons were quick to take the lead with McConnell scoring eight early points. Fanshawe seemed to have control early leading 20-7 at the end of the quarter. Fanshawe struggled on the offensive end in the second and the Cougars clawed their way back eventually taking the lead 27-24 heading into the half. The Falcons were held to just four points in the quarter.

The second half was a different story for Fanshawe. The Falcons came out of the gate on fire. After just two minutes, Fanshawe had scored 14 points and had regained control of the game. Ryan Pflanzner sparked the run for the Falcon, knocking down two consecutive threes to kick off the second half. The Cougars proved they weren't going down without a fight, but Fanshawe led by seven heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Fanshawe took control of the lead for good. McConnell and Connor Therrien were on fire from outside the arc, combining for six three pointers in the quarter. In the end, the Falcons were too much for the Cougars, as Fanshawe went on to win 76-58.

The Falcons are on the road on Saturday, Feb. 7 to take on the No. 4 CCAA nationally-ranked Mohawk Mountaineers. The game begins at 3 p.m.
