HUMBER TO HOST THE BEST OCAA MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS

ETOBICOKE, Ont. - This coming week, the top eight men's basketball teams in the province, including the host Humber College Hawks, will vie for the 2016 OCAA championship and direct entry into the CCAA national championship tournament.

The three-day event will tip off on Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. from the Humber Athletic Centre in Etobicoke, Ont. Play continues through until Sunday, with the bronze medal game taking place at 2:30 p.m., followed by the gold medal game at 5 p.m.

The coveted OCAA title is not the only goal this week for the teams, as with the OCAA holding two spots in the upcoming CCAA national championship, the gold and silver medalists will be granted an invite to the national championship dance. This opportunity was highlighted in fine fashion last year, with Humber advancing to and winning the national title, after dropping the OCAA gold medal game to Mohawk. The 2016 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship will be hosted by Keyano College in Alberta in two weeks.

Although play does not actually begin until Friday afternoon, the staff of the Humber athletic department will host the 2016 OCAA men's basketball awards banquet on Thursday night. On this night, the major awards and divisional all-star teams will be announced. The major awards of note are the CCAA all-Canadian selections and the OCAA player and CCAA coach of the year nominee, and the award winners names will be immediately distributed through all the social media platforms provided below.

Four teams gained direct entry into the event. Humber, as the host, are joined by West Division champions from Sheridan and the East's first and second placing teams of La Cité and St. Lawrence-Kingston. The final four participants were determined this past weekend in four play-off crossover match-ups.
