GLENN TO LEAD SENECA MEN'S BASKETBALL

GLENN TO LEAD SENECA MEN'S BASKETBALL

TORONTO - Seneca Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the hiring of Darrell Glenn as the new head coach of the Seneca Sting men's basketball team.

Glenn brings nearly 20 years of coaching experience to the Sting at a variety of levels. Glenn has spent time coaching within the OCAA and OUA as well as spent time with provincial and Canada Basketball national teams.

As a coach, success has followed Glenn throughout his career.

Glenn's coaching resume includes four OCAA championships as well as two Canada Basketball national championships with Ontario's under-15 provincial team. While an assistant coach, Glenn was a part of a pair of bronze medals with the Canadian under-21 national team and Canadian World University Games team.

For Glenn, he views his role as more than just the pursuit of athletic achievement, but also preparing young men for life and success in the classroom. This belief stems from Glenn's current role as a high school teacher and one he looks to continue while leading the Sting.

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to develop young men both on and off the court at Seneca College. Coaching at this level puts you in a great position to impact peoples' lives in a positive way and I can't wait to get started," Glenn offered.

When not standing at the front of the classroom, Glenn has been furthering his knowledge through the NCCP program where he is working towards completing his Level 4/5.

It's with this education and experience that Glenn plans to build the Sting into a perennial championship contender.

Glenn feels that with his knowledge of the recruiting landscape and his various networks, specifically as the current program manager of the Canadian men's national team junior academy, he will be able to recruit top-tier student-athletes to the red and black program.

"As competitive as the recruiting landscape is, I feel that Seneca has many top flight programs and administrative supports in place to make the school an attractive option for student-athletes to excel."

Jason Kerswill, manager of athletics, recreation and sports centre operations is anticipating a smooth transition and envisions a program built on character with Glenn at the helm.

"We are looking forward to great things from the men's basketball program under Darrell's leadership. We are confident that through his experience and current ties to the basketball community that Seneca will be able to attract and develop passionate student-athletes who demonstrate a desire to be successful on the court and in the classroom."

The Sting is coming off a 13-7 season, having qualified for the OCAA championship for the third consecutive season. Glenn will be looking to make that four straight while also trying to capture the team's first OCAA championship since the 1986-87 season.

Tip off for the 2015-16 season is Friday, Oct. 23 when the Sting welcome the Loyalist Lancers to The Hive.
