MOHAWK 100, ST. CLAIR 99 (OT)

HAMILTON, Ont. - Chalk up another win for the Mohawk men's basketball team. But they dodged a major bullet.

The Mountaineers beat St. Clair 100-99 in overtime Saturday and the finish was just as close as the score suggests.

Mohawk was in complete control leading by 27 points early. But the Saints battled back to force overtime. And the Mountaineers can thank Jeff Hunt for even getting to five extra minutes. The veteran hit on a buzzer beater to tie the score at 88-all, after St. Clair got its nose in front.

The action was just as furious in the overtime as it was late in regulation time. Mohawk took the lead, just to have the Saints fight their way back.

After two missed free throws by Mohawk, St. Clair had only 1.4 seconds left and a three-point try from the centre court area hit the rim, but stayed out. Lamar Barr led Mohawk with 24 points. Kojo Afari had 18. Xzennis Brereton had 15 points and Hunt scored 10 and added 20 rebounds.

Patrick Donnelly had 30 points and pulled down 21 rebounds to pace the Saints. Trevon Morrison had 22 points.

Mohawk is now 3-0 and St. Clair is 1-2.
