DURHAM OPENS 2017 WITH PAIR OF LOSSES AT GEORGE BROWN TOURNAMENT

TORONTO, Ont. - The Durham College men's basketball team will look to use this weekend as a benchmark as they prepare for the second half of the season to kick-off on Friday.

At the 39th Annual Huskies Invitational hosted by George Brown, the Lords were eliminated on Saturday by the St. Lawrence Vikings (5-5) after a 68-57 loss.

Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) paced the Durham offence with a game-high 20 points and eight boards. Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) and Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) each added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

St. Lawrence looked to Jean Beugre to lead their offence, scoring 16 points, while Jeffery Asiamah had a game-high 12 boards.

Durham opened the tournament on Friday with an 87-79 loss to the Georgian Grizzlies (4-6).

Anthony Meggo was unable to be stopped as he dropped a game-high 26 points in the Grizzlies' win, while his teammate Tyler Vanessen had the lone double-double of the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Halliburton and Hinckson Jr. were the Lords' leading scorers similar to Saturday's game, scoring 19 and 17 points respectively. Hinckson Jr. also had a team-high nine rebounds, while Dimeji also picked up 17 points.

This Friday night Lords will open up the second half of their regular season when they travel back to Toronto to face the George Brown Huskies. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
